Looking Back: The first Lord Mayor candidates
The Thirty Years of The Bridge book published two decades ago is always worth a browse, being a veritable treasure trove of Kilcullen memories and sometimes wilder times.
This photo is of the candidates for the first Lord Mayor Election fundraiser in 1977, the initial one of a series over subsequent years to raise money for community projects.
They are (back) Billy Sammon, PJ Willis, Kevin Doyle, Liam McDonnell, a representative from the sponsor whose name we don't have, and Jim Collins (Mr Valley); and (front) John Doyle, Barney Hillis, Vincent Conway, Simon Doyle, Michael Lambe (eventual winner), and Ger Markey.
