Homeless services expanded for cold spell

The Peter McVerry Trust has put extra accommodation in place to provide shelter from this cold spell to those sleeping rough in Co Kildare, writes Brian Byrne.
The Trust manages homeless services across the county for Kildare County Council, and has created 14 extreme weather placements at its Kerdiffstown facility. There is also extra phone support and transportation in place as part of the plan.
To deal with the Covid-19 situation, the Trust has testing kits that give a result in 15 minutes. “Anyone who is confirmed positive will be brought to a Covid-19 accommodation service operated by the Trust to get appropriate medical support and to isolate,” says Trust CEO Pat Doyle. “Anyone who tests negative will go to the emergency shelter.”
The emergency out of hours freephone service in Kildare has also been extended and will run 5pm to midnight for the rest of this week. Call 1800 804307 if you know someone who needs help.
