Hunting, Kildare Hounds (By Our Special Correspondent) 1899

Tuesday, 14th, Eagle Hill — There was a heavy downpour of rain in the morning, but it cleared off before eleven o'clock into a nice bright day. There was a good-sized field out.

Eagle Hill was first drawn, and it held a couple of foxes. One broke towards the cross roads, but then turned back by the covert, and ran out into the bog and was left.

Martinstown was our next draw, and it was full of foxes, but it was some time before we got one away. Hounds then went at a good pace towards Carrick Hill, but turned left-handed before they reached the road and ran by Newpark, where they crossed the road up to Mr Pallin's covert. Here they wheeled to the right towards Old Kilcullen, but turning to the left our fox ran as if he meant Kinneagh, but he changed his mind and made straight for Kilcullen.

Here he ran through the laurels by the avenue at Castlemartin and crossed the river up to Mellon Hill. There was now a long check, after which hounds ran a twisting line slowly towards Reeve's gorse by Sillot Hill, which was passed on the left by Dunstown wood, where he was lost owning to heavy rain, which did away with all scent.

This hunt was a good 6 miles point, and a good deal more as hounds ran. Amongst those out were — The Master, Col de Robeck, Mr and Miss de Burgh, Mr E de Burgh, Mr and Mrs O de Robeck, Mrs Young, Colonel and Miss Bond, Colonol H Higginson, Mr Cassidy, Mr and Mrs More O'Ferrall, Mr Waters, Mr Hopkins, Mr P La Touche, Mr T Lushington, Lady Hesketh, Major Blacker, Mrs F and Miss Blacker, Mr Lucas, Major and Mrs Alexander, Mr E Kennedy, Mr T Beasley, Miss Fisher, Mr W Pallin, Mr E Pallin, Major and the Misses Mansfield, Captain Burns Lindow, Mr and Mrs Lambert, Mr O'Brien, Captain Thoyles, Captain Campbell, Mr Holdsworth, Mr Carbutt, Capt Harper, Sir Herbert Chermside, Mr Reid, Mr Heffernan &c.
