WEATHER

Becoming wet and windy this morning with rain extending northeastwards and turning heavy in places. Southeasterly winds will increase strong and gusty. The rain will give way to scattered showers and some brighter spells through the afternoon and evening, as winds ease moderate to fresh south to southwesterly. Some of the showers will be heavy. Highest afternoon temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees.

DID YOU KNOW?

More than three-quarters of all plastics produced since 1950 have become waste, according to studies. Approximately 9 per cent has been recycled, 12 per cent incinerated, and the rest has ended up in landfills or the environment. Oil companies, seeing the widespread adoption of electric vehicles challenging their income streams, plan to boost petrochemical production for plastics to an estimated 1.1 billion tonnes annually by 2050, more than double current production.
