Special Diary podcasts for weekend's Climate Action Event
In association with this weekend's Climate Action Event organised by the Kildare Public Participation Network, Kilcullen Diary has produced a short series of related podcasts, writes Brian Byrne.
Available on a special Climate Action playlist on the Kilcullen Diary Podcasts from this evening, Friday 27 November, the three episodes feature local enterprises dealing respectively in innovative super-efficient housing, enhancing the range and life of older electric cars, and using the internet to bring local food and consumers together in a sustainable way.
The Kilcullen-based Passive Housing company owned by Matt Dooley and Mark Cooper is the subject of the first podcast — Efficient homes - the Polystyrene Build. They talk about how the unique system based on polystyrene structural components was first introduced to Ireland, and how much it brings forward the whole concept of carbon-neutral buildings.
The second episode has Barry McMahon and Eamon Stack talking about their Narraghmore-based social enterprise, Range Therapy, which adds an extra battery to older short-range Nissan Leafs to bring them close to the range newer versions can travel between charges. Range Anxiety? Give it Range Therapy offers a conversation on a part of the solution to carbon emissions from private transportation.
The final episode in the series, Neighbour Food for Thought, looks at the opportunity which online markets give to local food producers, especially in achieving sustainability and access to local consumers. Hannah Fox of Neighbour Food Grangecon tells how the system works and some of the producers on the site give their views on the advantages to them and to their customers.
The podcasts will be available here from 8pm. The full Climate Action Weekend programme can be viewed here.
