Kilcullen's Teresa helps fast-track Covid vaccine

A Kilcullen woman at the centre of the development of an anti-Covid vaccine says it could be up to 90pc effective depending on dosing regime, writes Brian Byrne.

Speaking on RTE's Claire Byrne Live today, Professor Teresa Lambe said the initial results on the AstraZeneca/University of Oxford vaccine have shown it to be on average 70pc effective at this stage. Using a two-dose system will push the efficacy up, she told Claire Byrne.

Professor Lambe also said that the group managed to produce their vaccine much faster than usual by getting enough funds to achieve a good manufacturing practice (GMP) batch for testing at a much earlier stage in the process.

Teresa Lambe was born and reared in Nicholastown where her parents Anthony and Mary still live. She currently lives, along with her partner and two school-going children, in Oxford near the famous University where she works as an associate Professor with the Jenner Institute.
