Some pubs closing in Level 3, others continue outside

The move to Level 3 of the Covid Framework has caused a number local pubs to close for the next three weeks, rather than try and provide takeaway or outdoor service, writes Brian Byrne. But others are staying open for the moment.

In town, Bardons were the first to announce they wouldn't be opening, and have been followed by O'Connells. Earlier, Dowlings of Ballyshannon, only recently opened after a major refurbishment, is also closing. Also outside town, Rainsford's of Athgarvan are closing for the duration of the Level 3 restrictions.

The Spout is remaining open for the rest of this week, serving only in its outside Beer Garden area, which is limited to 15 people at a time. Tonight, McTernans told the Diary that they are opening tomorrow for service in their outdoor area only. "We'll see how it goes," Mary Masterson said. And Fallons are also staying open with outdoor food and drink service only in their Beer Garden.

The restrictions come into place from midnight tonight.
