Rose Week appeal from Epilepsy Ireland
An appeal for online support is being made this week by Epilepsy Ireland, which provides support for those with an illness that affects 40,000 people in Ireland, writes Brian Byrne.
Rose Week, from 12-19 October, is the organisation's main fundraising opportunity, but this year all fundraising has been badly affected by the restrictions from the pandemic.
In addition to supporting those with the illness and their families, Epilepsy Ireland's remit is to raise awareness of the disease. More than a third of the €1.7m income of the organisation comes from fundraising, but in the period March-August this year that diminished by 52pc compared to 2019. A statement for Rose Week described the situation as 'devastating'.
During this week, the organisation is asking the public to follow details of its work on social media, and to consider donating. More details on how to help are available here.
