Weatherday: Orangemen

A little mist or fog at first, then another dry day with good sunny spells.

Light variable winds and a high of 18deg before cooling down to a fine evening.

On this day in 1795, a 'Battle of the Diamond' between Protestants and Catholics near Loughgall, Co Armagh, was to lead to the foundation of the Loyal Orange Institution (later the Orange Order) '... to defend the King and his heirs as long as they shall maintain the Protestant ascendancy'.
