Donnelly's Arm on RTE One's Today show

A few of you may have caught the RTE One Today show yesterday afternoon with Dáithí Ó Sé and Sinead Kennedy, writes Brian Byrne. The new season opened on Monday.

As it happened, they started a new segment in the show, 'Show and Tell', and your editor featured on the inaugural one with an item that for years had made Kilcullen globally famous — Dan Donnelly's Arm. The Byrne family has been custodians of this piece of pugilistic history for almost seven decades, and the show had asked would we tell its story once again.

So I did a quick run to Cork yesterday with the arm, and told the story as I had done so many times back in my own Hideout days up to the late 1970s, with some updates. It was fun, and my thanks to the very friendly crew in Cork for all their help on my brief visit.

Some stories never die ... and you can catch this one again on the RTE Player (in the second last segment of the show).
