Looking Back: Byrnes and others on a day out
A pair of photographs from Nessa Dunlea's never-ending trove of memorabilia has a special resonance for me, writes Brian Byrne.
The one above is a group of Kilcullen people out for a day at Poulaphuca Falls, possibly at a wedding? They include my grandfather James Byrne, the first man standing on the left; beside him the man with the hat is Tim Doran from Milemill, then my grandfather's sister Sarah; a man we don't know, and another sister, Annie. The lady on the bottom right is his youngest sister, Birdie, and behind her another, Norah.
The picture below is the same group, obviously taken when they had gathered to head out for the day. It would be interesting to get any other names, though since it was around 1900, that's unlikely. Does anyone know where the thatched house is?
So many stories there that I never heard ...
