Reminder: Mac and Norman Rally goes virtual

A reminder that the 18th Mac and Norman Vintage Rally in aid of the Irish Cancer Society will not be going ahead in physical form this year, but a 'virtual' one is being undertaken to continue the vital fundraising work, writes Brian Byrne.

A JustGiving page has been set up for donations to the cause, in which organiser Trish Sully is asking people to have their own rallies in their own area and film them.

The combined results will be compiled into a video which will be streamed on the Mac and Norman Facebook page on 16 August.

"This is not just for tractors, trucks and motorbikes," Trish says. "We want everyone to get involved. Anything that moves can take part in the virtual rally. We would love to see children get involved by getting on their favourite toy tractor, bike or scooter and parading around their own homes. Whether multiple vehicles or single, we want to see people out on their machines in support of the Irish Cancer Society."

The individual videos must be sent to Colm Lambe at colm_ lambe@hotmail.com before 10 August. The Facebook stream will be promoted far and wide by the organisers, who are hoping to get entries from all across the country.

Last year the traditional event raised €26,850, bringing  the total raised over 17 years of the run to almost €488,000.
