It's Indie Bookshop Week ... buy a book
As bookshops slowly reopen under the cosh of coronavirus restrictions, local best-selling author Hazel Gaynor is urging people to help them get back on their feet, writes Brian Byrne.
This is Independent Bookshop Week in Ireland and the UK, and that's as good a reason as any to go along and pick up a book, or two or three ...
Like Woodbine Books here in Kilcullen, they may be working under the difficulties of managing social distancing, and only selling through the door or online, but Hazel says they have also been incredible at adapting their services and going above and beyond to keep delivering books to those who couldn't manage without.
"As bookshops begin to re-open, let's do what we can to help them get back on their feet. Check how they're taking orders — in-store, online, phone, email, social media. Buy a book! Tag them on social media, or just tell all your friends, and let's spread the bookshop love."
Hazel's latest book The Bird in the Bamboo Cage is being released in August. You'll get my review closer to launch. Meantime, pre-order it from Dawn and her team at Woodbine Books, Ireland's Independent Bookshop of the Year 2018.
