Looking Back: Water troubles in Calverstown
This one has a personal recollection for me, writes Brian Byrne. It's a photograph I took around 1978, for an article I wrote in The Sunday World about water problems in Calverstown.
I don't have the clipping — threw them all out many years ago — so I can't remember the full details. Except that the sub in the paper came up with the headline 'Pumped and Stumped!'.
It was the first of dozens of articles I did for the World as my journalism career developed, also writing regularly for the main dailies as well as local papers and many magazines before heading into radio for a decade.
Does anyone remember what was the nub of the problem in Calverstown then?
