Cycle and environmental campaign for cycle and walking-friendly streets

A campaign to make County Kildare streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists is under way by the Maynooth Cycling Campaign and the environmental group Shamrock Spring, writes Brian Byrne.

Under the banner Change Our Streets, the campaign is seeking support to have Kildare County Council organise a specific meeting of the Transportation Strategic Policy Committee with Change Our Streets as the Agenda.

It's part of a national lobbying of local authorities on the same theme.

The campaign wants support from politicians, health professionals, resident associations, community groups, businesses and associations to make streets safer, against the background of physical distancing while people travel to work, to shops, to volunteer and for exercise and leisure.

An Open Letter to the Council is being circulated to individuals and community groups for signatures to be added in support of Change Our Streets.
