Weatherday: Asalnya konon Allah Taala marah

A mainly dry day with spells of hazy sunshine. Temperatures up to 18deg locally. South west winds will range light to moderate and back again.

Similar with lower temperatures tomorrow.

On this day in 1815, Mount Tambora in the Dutch East Indies had a cataclysmic eruption, the largest in recorded history. Around 11,000 people were killed directly, and the eruption caused a global volcanic winter in which at least 49,000 people are estimated to have died of famine when crops failed.

The subsequent cold decades are believed to have contributed to the Irish Famine amongst other famines throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

(The translation of the headline above from the local language in a poem about the eruption is 'The cause was said to be the wrath of God Almighty'.)
