Litter, more or less?

Overnight litter on Yellow Bog road.
Differing perceptions on the current level of littering during the coronavirus restrictions emerged at the recent virtual meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne. Chair Ann Cashman said there was 'a lot more' litter evident, but Noel Clare thought there is less.

The matter came up in a discussion about whether individual members of KCA should pick up litter while on their daily exercise walks. Ann Cashman noted that all such group activities by KCA are currently suspended, but she was quite happy to do so, keeping to physical distancing protocols and using proper equipment.

She said that it was up to individual members to decide, and anyone feeling uncomfortable about it should not worry.

The Diary has noted substantially less litter on the stretch of road from Thompson's Cross to the Yellow Bog bridge over recent weeks. Absent particularly are takeaway food and beverage containers thrown from cars, though this morning there were a number of Red Bull cans newly evident.

And on the Mile Mill to Yellow Bog road this morning there were three takeaway containers and their wrapping left on the road, possibly by people walking towards Yellow Bog during the night.

Nature, meanwhile, is doing what nature does, and these primroses on the Logstown-Carnalway road are a great example.
