Kilsaran seeks changes to existing activity at Kilcullen plant

File photo.
Kilsaran Concrete has submitted a new planning application to extend its existing extraction area at its Corbally and Brownstown lands north of Kilcullen, writes Brian Byrne.

The application to Kildare County Council involves a new extraction area of 10.3ha and the parallel early reinstatement of an existing extraction area of a similar footprint.

The applicant proposes to use the stripped topsoil and overburden materials from the new area to be used in the restoration of the other section 'to a beneficial agricultural after-use'.

The company says the new extraction will be 'dry working above the water table', and that the extraction period will be the same as current permission which allows work until 2039.

An Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) has been prepared in respect of this planning application, the full details of which can be seen here.

NOTE: Currently the application status is 'Incompleted Application' and the application has been returned to Kilsaran pending the provision of an in-date site notice.
