Kilcullen GAA Clubhouse is 18 today
The Kilcullen GAA clubhouse was officially opened on this day in 2002, 28 March, writes club PRO Adam Timmons. The opening was performed by Seamus Aldridge, Chairman of the Leinster Council at the time.
The occasion was marked by a fantastic match between a Mick O’Dwyer-managed Kildare GAA team who took on their old rivals Galway, less than four years after their famous 1998 All-Ireland Final meeting.
What a great day it was. The weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the big crowd present on the day either, as the place was packed with onlookers from around the county to witness what was, at the time, two of the best teams in Ireland lock horns.
Who remembers that bright Gold and Green colour scheme (which were our original club colours dating back to 1908!).
Many many more memories were to follow this our first day at our new clubhouse over the years, and many more are to come again, for sure.
Today, the clubhouse and grounds are empty and eerily quiet, and what wouldn't we do for a match today to mark this big occasion. Current circumstances prevent this of course, but we will be back soon if everyone continues to play their part. Stay safe all, and we will be back together again soon!
