Weatherday: We have liftoff

A cold but bright start, some light frost on cars and grass. Will get cloudier through lunchtime, but should stay dry until after dark, when some light showers are forecast.

Winds will get through moderate to fresh from the southwest. Temperatures reaching just 8deg.

On this day in 1926, American inventor Robbert Goddard launched the first liquid propellant rocket, opening the way eventually to space travel and the possibility of intercontinental atomic war.
