Weatherday: A leap of the faith

The overnight rain will clear during the morning. Mainly dry for most of the day. There may be a sunny spell or two in the afternoon.

Winds fresh to strong and shifting southwest to northwest, bringing dropping temperatures from 10 degrees in the morning to 3 degrees after dark.

On this day in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII announced the New Style Calendar, which established leap years and is named after him, or 'Common Era' for those who prefer a secular name. Greece was the last European country to adopt it, in 1923.
