Property marking 'cuts thefts' — Crime Awareness Night
There was a very good turnout for the Crime Awareness Night organised with the Naas District and Kilcullen gardai and hosted by the Kilcullen Community Text Alert Group, writes Brian Byrne.
In addition to information on crime in the Kilcullen area and the wider District, and tips on how to guard against burglary and other thefts, there was a demonstration on marking property.
It was given by Gda Sean O'Mahony, Community Garda with the Athy Sub-District, and he encouraged Kilcullen people to push for their local Municipal District to buy a similar machine for the area, and have volunteers trained in its use.
He noted how effective property marking had proved to be in comparing theft rates in adjoining areas in other Garda Districts, where the thefts dropped in the area with the property marking machine.
A full report from the night will be posted later.
