(Note: correct date has been changed from the original post this morning.)
Zandra, Queen of Jazz, tells the true story of Zandra Mitchell who was Ireland's first female saxophonist, touring the world with jazz bands. Born in 1903 in Phibsborough, Dublin, with just her sax and a suitcase, Zandra found her way through Europe to Berlin during the 20s.
Produced by Darn Skippy Productions, the play includes original music. The play is supported by Jazz Ireland, LexIcon Library, and the early development was supported by an Emerging Artist Bursary from DĂșn Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Arts Office.
The piece is written and performed by Roseanne Lynch and is directed and co-produced by Katherine Soloviev. Original music, arrangements, and sound design are by Richard Lennon and lighting and costume design by Lianne O’Shea. The poster is by Eugene Eugene Korolkov.
