Free family carers course

A free seven-week training programme for family carers will start next week in the Athy Family Resource Centre, writes Brian Byrne.

Caring with Confidence is being organised by Family Carers Ireland, and offers information on baseline practical care skills, and an exploration and development of self-care practices.

There is no entry requirement, and no previous qualifications are required. But the course is ONLY for family carers and NOT for home care workers.

The topics will cover the rights, entitlements and supports for the carer, basic first aid, practical care skills, an dhow to respond to challenging behaviours.

The course dates are 24 February' 2, 9, 23, 30 March, and 6, 20 April, with tuition sessions from 10am-1pm. For more information, contact Maggie Lally on 086 0213747 or email mlally@familycarers.ie.
