#GE2020: Labour promises ‘proper treatment’ of Defence Forces — Wall
Labour Party candidate in Kildare South Mark Wall says his party will seek an exemption to the public service pay agreement to address ‘inconsistent treatment’ of Defence Forces personnel, if it is participating in the next government.
In a statement, the candidate says Labour would ensure that all Defence Forces personnel will have ‘proper treatment’ in terms of pay, allowances and working conditions.
He also says Labour would ensure trade union recognition for the Defence Forces, and allow the union to affiliate with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to access the industrial relations institutions of the state.
At the same time, Labour will recognise that the government will be able to limit the right to strike, on the grounds of national security.
