A Kilcullen woman has entered the Kildare South general election contest, for the Aontú party established by Deputy Peadar Tóibín when he resigned from Sinn Fein in 2018.

She is Anita Mhic Gib, who lives in Cnoc na Greine. She is Principal of Gaelscoil Nás an Ríogh.

Her key points of focus, according to a statement, are health, housing, education and crime. She says she has been involved in politics for 20 years.

The party is nationally fielding in excess of 25 candidates in its first General Election.
