Election 2020 and the Diary

Now that the election campaigns are in train, the Diary has again been asked to accept adverts for political parties and candidates, writes Brian Byrne.

The short answer is that the Diary doesn’t do political ads. The longer one is that your editor’s community self and his commercial self had a discussion about this years ago. His community self won the decision.

However, we will cover the campaigns of the candidates of any and all parties in the Kildare South constituency by considering, judiciously, any statements they produce, and any canvassing in the Kilcullen district served by the Diary.

All such material, edited or not, will be given the source indication that it came from the party or candidate.

We also intend, time permitting, to do interviews with any candidate who makes himself or herself available. All are invited to do so.

Should any of our readers feel the urge to make their own comments on politics or policies during the course of the election campaign, the pages of the Diary are open to them. In that, we would ask that personal attacks not be written, and that there be no fake news offered.

In all the foregoing, your editor reserves the right to edit, or refuse publication of any material, without explanation.

For the duration of the campaign, all posts relating to the election will be labelled Election 2020.
