'More than 150' objections to Kilsaran project

Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association among objectors.
The Ballyshannon Action Group say they will have more than 150 objection lodged to the proposed Kilsaran sand and gravel quarry at Racefield, before the deadline for submissions of 4pm this afternoon.

The Group says the number includes submissions from local residents, and key players in the equine industry including Ruby Walsh, his Highness the Aga Khan, the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association (ITBA) and stud farms including Sheshoon Stud, Taroka Stud and Jockey Hall Stud.

In a statement, the Group express their hope that the submissions and the very serious concerns raised within each and every one, are given the utmost consideration by Kildare County Council.

"We fail to see how the voices of over 150 local residents and business owners could be ignored. This development goes against the Kildare County Development Plan. Ballyshannon is a completely inappropriate location for this quarry."

A number of local councillors and local TDs have also voiced strong support against the plans including Kildare's Mayor Cllr Suzanne Doyle, Deputy Martin Heydon TD, Cllr Chris Pender, Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer and Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.

Addendum: Deputy Fiona O'Loughlin informed us on 7 November that she and Cllr Anne Duggan Connolly have also made submissions on the proposal.
