Calendar launched by Photography Club
The 2020 Kilcullen Photography Club Calendar was launched today in Woodbine Books, writes Brian Byrne. It is on sale for €8 in Woodbine, An Tearmann, Hair by Eilis, and from any member of the club.
It's the second calendar produced by the club, which has been in existence since 2017 and has since then had a membership of between 17-20. Acting chairman Dave Byrne said this afternoon that the ethos of the club was 'sharing knowledge', organising workshops and outings, and that members critique each others' work regularly.
The calendar features members' photographs with subject matter that includes local heritage architecture, landscape, portraits of local people, recollections of Kilcullen 700, and detail abstractions.
Those present at the launch heard that the print run of 400 last year was sold out by Christmas Eve, and that it had been sent as presents to Kilcullen people all over the world, as far away as New Zealand.
The sponsors of the calendar are Nolan's Butchers, Raymond Boucheron Sunglasses, Curious Quirkes and Joe O'Connor Engraving, Kilcullen Community Action, Appleton Property, No 1 Fitness, Woodbine Books, O'Connell's Bar, The River Cafe, Secret Kloset, and the Kilcullen Gospel Choir. The Photography Club itself sponsored July for Pieta House.
Conor Williams said that without the sponsors the calendar simply couldn't happen and he thanked all for their involvement.
Presentations of the calendar were made to representatives of sponsors who were present.
On behalf of the Kilcullen 700 Committee, Noel Clare presented the club with a framed plaque for its contribution to the year of celebration, last year's calendar being the first element of the programme.
