Scary stories in Kildare this weekend
A very seasonal offering of stories of the macabre and mysterious will be the stuff of an evening in Kildare on Saturday next, 26 October, starting at 9pm, writes Brian Byrne.
The event will feature renowned seanchai Eddie Lenihan, widely regarded as one of the greatest of Ireland's modern storytellers. He will sit in the disused Kildare Town Courthouse and tell those who dare to visit terrifying tales of Ireland.
The Courthouse no doubt has its own tales to tell from its former use, and will contribute to the atmosphere of the evening.
The storyteller is originally from Kerry but has collected and recorded stories from older people throughout Ireland, and his collection is, like himself, a national treasure. Some 400 of them, told in his own unique style, are the foundation of his repertoire as a seanchai.
The evening is presented by the Kildare Town Projects Group, and tickets are available at Eventbrite.ie.
The event is not suitable for children under 14.
