Patricia Gibney in Woodbine
An evening with Patricia Gibney in Woodbine Books on Thursday is the Kilcullen event in the Kildare Readers Festival 2019 this week, writes Brian Byrne. The event is in association with Kilcullen Library.
The Mullingar-based crime writer is the creator of Garda Detective Lottie Parker, the main character in her six novels published to date.
Taking up writing as a therapy when her husband died unexpectedly after a short illness, she acquired an agent and a book deal with a London-based digital publisher for her first book, The Missing Ones. It was a quick success in the US and in the UK on the Amazon Kindle and Audible Narration platforms.
The Woodbine Books event begins at 6pm, and the writer will talk about her writing life and read from her work.
The Kildare Readers Festival was officially opened in Woodbine last Monday night.
Other events in the programme this week include Pickings and Choosings — a celebration of the work of Denis O'Driscoll, at 11am this morning at Naas Racecourse.
Events in Athy Community Library include Irish Folk Tales with Steve Lally on Thursday at 6pm and a Writing for Wellbeing workshop with Mark Gallagher on Friday between 2pm-4pm.
Kilcullen writer Hazel Gaynor will participate in a Book Club Brunch from 12 noon on Saturday in Leixlip Community Library. Along with Antoinette Tyrell, she will be in conversation with Margaret Madden.
