Hazel's new book announced

Details have been released of Hazel Gaynor's next book, The Kingfisher Patrol, and it represents a major change in time and location from her previous historical novels, writes Brian Byrne.

The story is set in Japanese-occupied China during World War II, about a group of international schoolchildren in a Girl Guides group. Along with their teachers, they face the impact of internment, separation and an uncertain future.

"I've been dying to spill the literary beans about The Kingfisher Patrol," Hazel posted yesterday on Facebook. "China. Girl Guides. Who knew these things ever came together? But they did, and it's the most amazing story, and I've written about it!"

She has been researching and writing the book over the last two years, and it is now in the editing process.

Hazel's most recent book, Meet Me in Monaco, written with friend and writing colleague Heather Webb, went on sale in Ireland and the UK recently, following a summer release in the US.
