Kilcullen delight at Esther Lambe silver in European Boxing Championships

Esther Lambe, who has strong Kilcullen connections, won a silver medal for Ireland in Tsibli, Georgia, yesterday in the EUBC Schoolboys & Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships Girls Bantam 44 kg section of in Tsibli, Georgia, writes Brian Byrne.

Daughter of Michael Lambe, originally from Conroy Park, and Newbridge chiropodist Margaret Donnelly Lambe, Esther boxes with the Setanta Boxing Club and Fitness Academy, Newbridge. Earlier this year she won the National Cadet Championship, her third national title in three years.

There were five other contenders in her class, from Georgia, Ukraine, Italy, Greece and Turkey. In her final bout against the Turkish opponent she was edged out on 3/2 split decision.

There have been lots of congratulatory messages on Facebook over the last number of hours from the family's Kilcullen friends.
