Summer Bridge now on sale, remembers Bernard
The July/August edition of The Bridge leads with a 'Thank You' for the life of the late Bernard Berney and his contribution to the life of Kilcullen, written by Joe Kelly. Joe sums up Bernard's caring personality, and records the deeply sad but ultimately uplifting celebration of his funeral day.
Elsewhere, the Bridge is as usual a recording and celebration of Kilcullen life, and this issue features its enormous variety. Brannockstown fun at their Table Quiz, much about local archaeology in relation to both Dun Ailinne and the neighbouring Old Kilcullen. The Kilcullen Gospel Choir ending its season on a high note. Coverage of the 2019 Dawn Walk for Pieta House, and the Acoustic Picnic for Maintain Hope. Christy Moore's visit to unveil a plaque in the Heritage Centre to Kilcullen-born Frank Conroy, killed in the Spanish Civil War. The Bloomsday Garden event in aid of the KWWSPCA shelter.
There are notes about the visits of longtime 'wild geese', Jim Greenway from New Zealand and Andy Steed from Florida, USA — both regular Diary readers, BTW. And a reunion with classmates about which Mary Orford muses on the kind of life they had in school, and how their lives developed afterwards. There's a musical note, too, a piece about a new Kilcullen-related band, the Overlockers.
A colourful business feature highlights a new enterprise centred in Kilcullen which aims to develop the country's hurling heritage as a tourist attraction, which should be an interesting puck ...
Then there are the regulars — KCA continuously working for Kilcullen, KWWSPCA on animal welfare, the schools, the sport, the recipe of the month (or in this case, for the summer months). Key regular contributors Billy Redmond and Sean Landers, on the Grotto Rosary and impending Taiwan Exit (TEXIT?) respectively.
And as always, much more. Enjoy. Back with it in September.
