Bees colour theme for Kilcullen in Bloom

A purple and blue colour theme has been chosen for the 2019 Kilcullen in Bloom support stickers, which will be given to those who contribute to the costs of the initiative, writes Brian Byrne. This is a reference to the Kilcullen pollinator project as they are the colours associated with bees.

At the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action Eoin Houlihan said he wanted to add 'bee-friendly' and a 'wild' component to the judging for the Garden Competition that's part of KIB.

Meantime, the meeting noted the progress with installing the flowers window boxes in the town, with the help of the CE Scheme workers. KCA chairman Ray Kelly thanked Eoin Houilihan for organising the flowers supply at a 'good value' cost, and it was noted that peat-free compost had been used in the planting this year.

The group welcomed the arrival of planters given on long-term loan from Naas Tidy Towns, and during the discussion it was also decided to seek costs for the addition of some tiered planters.

It was decided to place water butts at some areas so that planters could be more easily watered. After some discussion, it was decided to look for wood casks rather than plastic ones.
