No rest for the councillor

"The dust doesn't even get to settle," Ivan Keatley remarked to the Diary with a wry grin, writes Brian Byrne. "I got a phone call just after the official declaration from someone with a housing issue ..."

The returned councillor to the Athy LEA, who lives in Old Kilcullen, didn't even get the Sunday of the count off. But that's politics. Especially when you've already a track record of working for one's community.

Earlier, along with his fellow successful candidates Mark Wall, Aoife Breslin, Brian Dooley and Veralouise Behan, they had thanked the election count officials, their respective teams and volunteers, families and all who had voted.

With the counts in the Athy, Kildare, and Celbridge areas now complete, and Naas getting closer to a conclusion, those for Newbridge and Maynooth are now going to be the afternoon focus of attention here at Punchestown.
