Halverstown NS annual Old Kilcullen walk

It was beautiful weather for this morning's annual walk from Old Kilcullen for pupils from St Joseph's NS in Halverstown, writes Brian Byrne.

After exploring the ancient monastic site, the children, parents and teachers had a short talk about the history of Old Kilcullen and how its importance was gradually diminished by the growth of Kilcullenbridge, now known simply as Kilcullen and celebrating the 700th anniversary of the building of the first stone bridge in the town.

Everyone then walked to a welcome breakfast in the school, prepared by the older classes, protected from traffic by units from the Kildare Garda Division.
