Chris Pender hoping to be transfer-friendly
The Social Democrats candidate Chris Pender is nervously happy with his tallied position facing into the Newbridge LEA count, writes Brian Byrne.
He's widely tipped to win the sixth seat in the area, the others expected to be Independent, two Fine Gael, and two Fianna Fail.
It will depend on transfers, of course, but he's potentially transfer-friendly thanks to his local campaign work in the referendums on Marriage Equality and Repeal the Eighth.
"I wasn't a Social Democrat candidate then, and the people I met during those campaigns now see me for who I am rather than necessarily for a particular party," he says.
Another element of interest to watch for this afternoon. Whenever we get going.
