The competition has cash prizes for Biodiversity Photographer of the Year, and the Young Biodiversity of the Year Schools Competition.
The theme for 2019 is ‘Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health’ and the challenge is to capture an image of biodiversity as the foundation for our food and health and a key catalyst to transforming food systems.
This could relate to how biodiversity interacts with the agricultural landscape in Ireland, the physical and mental health values of nature, and more generally photos celebrating biodiversity in all its forms.
All photos must be taken in the month of May and must be submitted by midnight on the 31st May 2019. The winner will be determined by a judging panel whose decision is final.
Amateur competition entry page: The winner will receive €500, with second place receiving €200 and third place €100.
Schools competition entry page: The winner will receive €200, with second place receiving €100 and third place €50.
National Biodiversity Week 2019 is over the course of nine days, from 18-26 May, and over 50 free, family-friendly events will be taking place all over Ireland.
