Tony McNamee an independent candidate for Athy LEA

Tony McNamee from Calverstown is running as an independent candidate for the Athy area in the upcoming local elections, writes Brian Byrne.

Farming locally, he has a strong record of involvement in community organisations in his area, including Macra na Feirme, the IFA, St Laurence's GFC, Ballyshannon Hall, Calverstown Tidy Towns and Crookstown Parish.

He worked with Kildare County Council for 36 years, and has a strong commercial track record as a director of a semi-state body and chairmanship of Clonmel Racecourse.

His key electoral themes as transparency in local authorities, local housing needs, and generally helping to enhance the Athy area as as good place to live, work and do business.

Polling day is 24 May.
