Permission refused for Kilgowan pit infill

Kildare County Council has refused an application for planning permission to infill a former sand and gravel pit in Kilgowan.

The application was made last April, and related to a site of circa two hectares. Permission was sought to import inert material to the site, comprising mainly soils and stones.

The Council's planners had recommended refusal because access to the site from a regional road with relatively high vehicle speeds and where relatively high rates of overtaking have been recorded ... 'would be likely to result in a traffic hazard'.
