Planting for pollinators event

As the planting season for currently dormant gardens gets closer, a free event in Dublin's National Botanic Gardens on Saturday 23 February may be of interest.

Planting with Bees (and Other Pollinators) in Mind will run through the afternoon from 2.30pm, with Mary Montaut from County Wicklow, a passionate beekeeper.

She will advise participants on choosing plants which will encourage both honey bees and wild pollinators to visit. Mary will show how attracting bees and other pollinators to your garden will have the added benefit of increasing your yield of crops of soft and tree fruits too.

All welcome, no booking necessary.

Mary's passion for gardening began as a child when she was inspired by her favourite aunt who lived close to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Mary is currently editor of An Beachaire, the Irish beekeeping journal.

Meanwhile, an advice evening on the importance of pollination will be held in Keadeen Hotel on 28 March, beginning at 7.30pm. More details when they are made available.
