Tulip 'river' bulbs planting next week

Planting of up to 10,000 tulip bulbs will be taking place next week so that there will be a 'river' of the flowers in place in the spring at the north end of town, writes Brian Byrne.

The initiative is one of a number that will highlight next year's Kilcullen 700 celebrations of seven centuries of bridges in the town over the Liffey.

At the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, Noel Clare said the area, on the opposite side of the road to Dunlea's Garage, has been sprayed in preparation for the planting, and 'the effect can already be seen'.

There was some discussion on the best method of planting, and it was agreed that around six people would be required for the work next week.

Eoin Houlihan recalled that the planting of the window boxes by KCA volunteers for the summer's Kilcullen in Bloom initiative this year had provided a 'great sense of community' on the occasion.
