Social housing levels in Kilcullen lower than county, national
Just 5.7pc of housing in Kilcullen is rented social housing, compared to the national average of 9.4pc, writes Brian Byrne.
This was revealed at Monday's meeting of Kildare County Council, which also heard that the county's percentage of rented social housing as a whole is also below the average, at 7.1pc.
Other nearby towns to Kilcullen have widely varying levels of rented social housing, from the 2.8pc in Athgarvan to the 15.6pc of Athy and 15.7pc of Kildare.
The highest rate of such housing is in the village of Kilmeague at 23.8pc, and Suncroft with 23.1pc. The village of Allenwood, however, has the lowest with just 0.3pc.
The figures were abstracted from the Kildare Census 2016 Profile Housing report.
