Santa's Reindeer Hospital is a classic experience

For any parents who want to bring their youngsters to a really classic Santa experience this week, the Diary heartily recommends the Santa's Reindeer Hospital in Kildare, writes Brian Byrne.

An initiative of the Kildare Town Projects Group, it revolves around a virus affecting Santa'a reindeer, who are brought to the Reindeer Infirmary in Kildare because this county is where the best vets in the country operate.

The highlight of the visit, in the Old Courthouse in Kildare town, is a one on one with Santa and Mrs Claus in their very cosy home, which our pair of US grandsons found to be absolutely authentic and enthralling.

Afterwards they visited the recuperating reindeer in the Infirmary (they're doing very well, by the way).

The cost is €15, with parents being part of the experience for free, and places can be booked on Eventbrite or at the Kildare Tourism Office in the square. It is running through Sunday next.

(Sensational Kids have a popup traditional toy shop next door, in case anyone is short on ideas on what to ask Santa to give them.)
