So far, it's only a tree, writes Brian Byrne. But it becomes a Christmas Tree on Saturday next at 5pm, when the lights are switched on to finish off the day of the Kilcullen Christmas Market in market square.

Mark the date. Bring the children. For the music, the buzz, the traditional real start to Christmas when us country folk used to trek to Dublin. Now, there's too much going on at home to bother.

KCA volunteers and the help of a teleporter provided by Ed Dixon of Kennycourt Developments got the tree in place at breakfast time yesterday.
