Any photographs of Eileen Redmond from 40s and 50s?

Tina Shortt.
The Diary has been asked to look for photos of Eileen Redmond, who is turning 80 in January, writes Brian Byrne.

A sister of Billy Redmond, her daughter Tina Shortt is seeking any pictures of Eileen and friends from her time in Kilcullen before she moved to Dublin to work during the 1960s.

According to Tina, Eileen's parents moved from Old Kilcullen to Nicholastown around 1943. Eileen went to the girls school run by the Cross and Passion nuns ('she remembers Sr Brendan fondly … also remembers Sr Carmel Therese and Sr Lelia'), leaving school at around age 15.

"She worked for a while in Byrnes Hotel, then in Carmel Byrne's knitting factory," Tina says. "She also worked in O'Connells bakery and sweet shop, and in Mrs Burke's restaurant."

Tina says her mum also did the teas at dances all around the area, before leaving for Dublin to work at a young age just before her own mother died.

"We have lots of photos after she was married, but none from before. It would be great to track down any other photos she may be in, at school, with friends, at dances."

Tina can be contacted through her Facebook page.
