Praise for community generosity towards lights

The recent street collection for the Christmas Lights was 'amazing and record breaking', last night's meeting of Kilcullen Community Action heard, writes Brian Byrne.

The generosity of the community was praised with the collection totalling in excess of €1,700.

During a discussion on the matter, it was generally agreed that the prior placing of the two decorative bicycles on the bridge, with flowers and lights, was probably helpful in making people aware of the annual KCA effort in providing the lights.

The bicycles are subsidised by donations from Nolans Butchers and Kildare Flowers.

Still on the lights, the meeting heard that the trees in the Credit Union garden will be lit as part of this year's display, as an insurance indemnity has been provided.

A large and two small trees for the market square are expected to be erected this weekend.

The official switch on of the lights in the trees and the town lights will be on the evening of the Christmas Market on Saturday week, though lights through the town will probably be on from this weekend.

Noel Clare suggested that KCA members should keep an eye out over the Christmas period for sections of the town where the lighting system might be improved.
