Kilcullen Badminton update

It has been very busy for the club recently with no fewer than 15 matches played over the last week and a half and here are some of the highlights, writes Match Secretary Enda O'Neill.

We start with our Grade 3B team who hosted table toppers Ballinabranna on Tuesday 23rd October night. It was a must win match for captain Barry O’Neill, Enda O’Neill, Owen Wallce and Shochan Andrews. Ballinabranna were hoping to replicate their earlier result against the improved KBC side. In a great match the Kilcullen lads beat their counterparts, overturning their earlier defeat against Ballinabranna, beating them 3-1. This puts the Grade 3 B team top of the table by a single point putting them into a semi final as they cant be caught by the chasing pack with one match left to play against Johnswell.

Ross Cole and his team mates Kasi Va, Keith O’Neill and Giovannai Etorne travelled to St Raphaels to kick start their Division 7 Men’s Dublin District round 1 Cup. In a one way fixture the lads steam rolled the opposition beating them 3-1 and sending them into the next round of the cup. A great start for our division 7 Men who now face Baldoyle District at home in a must win match.

The DDL Division 5 Men captained by the ever dependable John Mullen and his lads travelled to play PBAI on their home turf in Tolka Rovers on Saturday 3rd of November, a place well known to John from his soccer playing days. The lads didn’t pull hold back in this fixture and came away with a 4-0 win in a difficult court with a tenacious display. Well done to John, Keith O’Neill, Oisin Egan and 'Mr Bouncebackability' Vincent Coller. The Lads next venture is Clane in the DDL Cup later in the month.

In an equally impressive display our Grade 6 ladies visited Bough on Sunday 4th of November. Our “Ragettes” dominated this fixture and beat Bough 4-0. Well done to captain Orla Brophy, Teresa Mc Glynn, Maeve Valroy (the maker of beautiful cakes!) and Lynda Murtagh. Their next game is home to Bough on November 15th.

Finally Stara O’Neill’s DDL Division 3 Mix team travelled to play Baltinglass in their first League fixture. Stara needed to call on a sub as one of the finest players in our club Mick Cass had injured himself (but don’t worry he's on the mend after dropping the power drill on his toe!).
