We have mentioned several times on the Diary the excellent work carried out on the production of the KilcullenTown.Com website, writes Brian Byrne.
The site was built on a voluntary basis by Gareth Landy for Kilcullen Community Action, and among other things is a definitive directory for local community and sports organisations, and many businesses. Gareth has been deservedly congratulated on this work, but has been surprised at one aspect of the response.
"I keep meeting people who tell me what hasn't been included," he told the Diary recently. "They don't seem to realise that this has been a time-consuming voluntary exercise, and that it's really up to those organisations which are absent to contact KCA for inclusion."
Gareth also notes that, under the new data protection regulations, he may not add any organisation's listing to the site without them providing both the permission and details, so he can't simply include information provided by those third party people who stop him and tell him what's missing. "It's important that they know this, and that I'm not just ignoring them," he says.
